Paras join forces with Omani soldiers
Paratroopers have been training alongside the Royal Army of Oman to hone the infantry skills of both armies’ soldiers. Exercise WESSEX THUNDER has seen Colchester-based 2nd Battalion The Parachute Regiment (2 PARA) working with the Omani Western Frontier Regiment on Salisbury Plain. The two-week long exercise concluded this week with a co-ordinated attack on the urban warfare training facility at Copehill Down. 2 PARA launched the initial assault, with the Omani troops arriving by Chinook to reinforce the paratroopers and complete the capture of the village. Oregon Army National Guard Soldiers of the 1-82 Cavalry Regiment trained alongside Soldiers from the Royal Army of Oman’s 11th Brigade, Western Frontier Regiment and a platoon from the 125th Forward Support Company, 1st Battalion, 194th Field Artillery Regiment from Joint Base Lewis McCord (JBLM), Wash., at the Rubkut Training Range in Oman, in January 2012. The exercise, sponsored by U.S. Army Central, was meant to share knowledge and build diplomatic relations.

Exercise Prairie Thunder is a collective training level 3 battle group training event based at British Army Training Unit Suffield (BATUS) in Canada. The Household Cavalry Regiment and 1 Royal Regiment of Fusiliers are the units within 1 Mechanised Brigade being exercised from 7th May till 12th June 2012.
