Exercise GREEN MAELSTROM has seen 3rd Battalion The Parachute Regiment (3 PARA) put through its paces and celebrate one of its heroes.
The training, on the arduous terrain of the Otterburn Ranges in Northumbria, focussed on building up the paratroopers' skills in carrying out live fire section attacks, both by day and at night.
The McKay VC Competition was also held to test the unit's wider military abilities. Troops in full battle rig take part in a 15km night navigation exercise including stands testing their signalling, medical and parachute packing skills; an assault course; and live fire section attacks.
The competition honours the memory of Sergeant Ian McKay, who was awarded a posthumous Victoria Cross for his "outstanding selflessness, perseverance and courage" during the Falklands War in 1982. Sgt McKay VC was killed during the assault on Mount Longdon when he attacked an Argentine position alone and under heavy fire.

Der Soldat ist ausgerüstet mit der Exportvariante des LAR V der Firma Dräger mit dazugehörigem Schwimmkargen. Als „Über“-Anzug trägt er die eigens für die SEALs beschaffte
Crye Precision Combat Pants und Shirt in AOR 2 (Waldgebiete) ohne Knieschützer, die beim Tauchen eher hinderlich sind. Verborgen sind aber der dünne Neoprenanzug zum Wärmeerhalt,
sowie die Gefechtsausrüstung (2. Line), die unter dem Tauchgerät getragen wird und nur an den Trageriemen am Rücken zu erahnen ist.
Da es sich um gute klimatische Bedingungen und Wassertemperaturen handelt, verwendet er keine Neoprenhaube.

Bemerkenswert: Der Kampfschwimmer verwendet ein EOTech Reflexvisier. Dies ist zwar nicht ungewöhnlich für Landoperationen,
aber bei Tauchoperationen werden zumeist Aimpoint-Varianten benutzt, da diese für diesen Zweck ausgelegt sind.

Bis zu welcher tiefe sind Optiken eigentlich Wasserdicht?

Zum EoTech: laut Hersteller sind die Standardmodelle bis 10m wasserdicht, das 553 für's USSOCOM sogar bis 20m.

In Croix-Rouge, einem Vorort von Reims, war die Sondereinheit Raid in der Nacht im Einsatz.

Sie sucht nach den mutmaßlichen Attentätern von Paris. Dabei handelt es sich um zwei Brüder.
