(kitup)

ZITAT
U.S. Army testers recently evaluated a new type of hand grenade that allows soldiers to connect up to three sections of explosive for a more powerful blast.

The Scalable Offensive Hand Grenade offers conventional soldiers a new capability. Unlike the standard fragmentation grenade, this design offers mainly a blast effect that can be doubled or tripled to suit the job. It has also been fielded to U.S. Special Operations Command since 2010.

Army officials tested it during a recent live-fire portion of the service’s annual Army Expeditionary Warrior Experiment at the Maneuver Center of Excellence at Fort Benning, Ga.

The base grenade has a non-removable, 3.5 second fuse and a body encasing .25 pounds of high explosive. Two separate modules of the same potency can be quickly connected to provide one, simultaneous explosion.

The blast completely collapsed a one-room, adobe-style structure, said Harry Lubin, chief of the Experimentation Branch of MCOE’s Maneuver Battle Lab.

“It really has a devastating effect,” he said.

It’s too early to tell if the Army will adopt the new grenade system, but the results of the live-fire assessment will be available to Army officials who write future lethality requirements, Lubin said.

This was the first year a live-fire portion was added to AEWE. It gave Benning officials the chance to evaluate weapons that might not be looked at otherwise, Lubin said.

The right bang for the buck.

ZITAT
PICATINNY ARSENAL, N.J. -- Engineers at Picatinny Arsenal are working on the first new lethal hand grenade in more than 40 years, which is designed to give greater flexibility to the warfighter.

The multi-purpose hand grenade design will provide both fragmentation and blast overpressure more effectively and safely than its legacy counterparts. Once fielded, Soldiers will be able to select and use a hand grenade with different effects simply by flipping a switch.

Over the past five years, Picatinny engineers have been collaborating with Infantry School representatives, hand grenade cadre, as well as active duty Soldiers and Marines, to determine warfighter needs regarding hand grenades.

Our warfighter lost the capability of using an alternate lethal hand grenade when the MK3A2 concussion grenade was taken out of service in 1975 due to an asbestos hazard, leaving the M67 fragmentation grenade.

The grenade development at Picatinny is being performed by engineers with the U.S. Army Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center, or ARDEC.

Science and technology funding has allowed ARDEC to spearhead the design effort to develop the Enhanced Tactical Multi-Purpose (ET-MP) hand grenade, the Army’s next generation lethal hand grenade. The grenade will be designed to meet performance requirements required for close combat engagements in which the effects must be lethal.

ARDEC is working in cooperation with the Maneuver Center of Excellence at Fort Benning, and the Program Manager for Close Combat Systems, to insert critical technologies with Soldier-centric designs to improve safety and ease of use.

According to Jessica Perciballi, ARDEC Project Officer for ET-MP, U.S. Army, Grenades & Demolitions Division, ET-MP represents the first hand grenade that can be tailored to the mission.

“Soldiers will not need to carry as many types of hand grenades,” she said.

“They are currently carrying one M67 grenade that provides lethal fragmentation effects. With the new multi-purpose grenade, they can carry one ET-MP grenade and have the ability to choose either fragmentation or concussive effects desired for the situation,” Perciballi said.

Another feature is that the grenades are designed for ambidextrous use, meaning that they can be thrown with either hand. Current grenades require a different arming procedure for left-handed users.

“Not only will ET-MP provide additional capabilities and lethality to the warfighter, it will also be the first Army Fuze Safety Review Board and Insensitive Munition-qualified lethal grenade in the Army’s portfolio,” Perciballi added.

According to Matthew Hall, Grenades Tech Base Development Lead, “The request for a multi-purpose grenade came from the warfighter in 2010. Research began almost immediately. The science and technology funding to move forward with a project came in fiscal year 2013.”

“We received direct input from the Army and Marine Corps early on, which was critical in ensuring the new arming and fuzing design was user friendly,” Hall said.

“With these upgrades in the ET-MP, not only is the fuze timing completely electronic, but the detonation train is also out-of-line,” Hall added. “Detonation time can now be narrowed down into milliseconds, and until armed, the hand grenade will not be able to detonate.”

According to Hall, the current plan for ET-MP is to transition the new grenades to Project Manager Close Combat Systems in Fiscal Year 2020. That organization is also located at Picatinny Arsenal.

SCICAST INTERNATIONAL (lt. Website u. a.

ELECTRONICALLY ACTIVATED HAND GRENADE

ZITAT
An electronic detonation unit is attached to the body for detonating the at least one charge. A pull pin is removably attached to the electronic detonation unit, for activating the electronic detonation unit upon removal thereof. Another aspect of the present invention is directed to a method of detonating an electronic hand grenade including a body having at least one charge therein, an electronic detonation unit attached to the body, including an accelerometer, a controller and a detonator, and a pull pin removably connected to the electronic detonation unit. The method comprises the steps of removing the pull pin to activate the electronic detonation unit, detecting acceleration of the body in at least one of X, Y and Z directions via the accelerometer and determining by the controller whether acceleration has been detected by the accelerometer. If acceleration has been detected, the controller determines whether the acceleration corresponds to throwing or rolling. If the detected acceleration corresponds to throwing, the controller determines whether the body has been subjected to an impact. If the body is subjected to an impact, the controller determines whether the body has traveled at least a minimum safe throwing distance. If the body has traveled at least the minimum safe throwing distance, the controller instructs the detonator to detonate the at least one charge and the at least one charge is detonated. If the detected acceleration corresponds to rolling, the controller determines whether the body has traveled at least a minimum safe rolling distance. If the body has traveled the at least minimum safe rolling distance, the controller instructs the detonator to detonate the at least one charge, and the at least one charge is detonated.

ZITAT
If the microcontroller 128 determines that the hand grenade 100 has traveled a safe distance, the microcontroller 128 instructs the detonator 116 to detonate immediately (526). The detonator element 116 thus immediately ignites the primary and main charges 118, 114, thereby exploding the hand grenade 100. Thus, there is no opportunity for the enemy to pick up and throw the hand grenade. Conversely, even if impact is detected, if the microcontroller 128 determines that the hand grenade 100 has not traveled the safe distance, the microcontroller 128 deactivates the hand grenade 100 (518). Accordingly, the hand grenade 100 does not injure or kill the user who initially threw the hand grenade. Deactivating the hand grenade 100 also ensures that even if the enemy locates and throws the hand grenade 100, that it will not detonate.

Mal was anderes aber trotzdem irgendwie artverwandt.

Design threat grenade (DTG5)

Test methods for ballistic and blast protection"-Norm.

ZITAT
The validation test shall consist of a minimum of two plates [Aluminium 6082] of each thickness that meet the following
criteria for each plate:
• 0% perforation on the (12.7 ±0.3) mm plate; and
• greater than 50% perforations on the (8.0 ±0.3) mm plate.

Anzahl Splitter: 507 St.
Fläche der 5mm-Kugel: A = 19,63 mm²
Kinetische Energie eines Splitters ca.: E = 250 J
Masse eines Splitters ca.: m = 0,514 g
Splittergeschwindigkeit ca.: v = 986 m/s

Zur Bewertung der HGr-Wirkung:
ZITAT

Selectable lethality yield inflatable grenade

Die HGr verfügt über mehrere Modi:
