Liebe User,
Viel Vergnügen, Euer WHQ-Team -------------------- Sapere Aude & Liber et Infractus

ZITAT US Libya air raids top 140 Tim Ripley, London - IHS Jane's Defence Weekly 13 September 2016 US aircraft have carried out more than 140 strikes on Islamic State targets in Libya since 1 August, according to data released by US Africa Command (AFRICOM). AFRICOM's Stuttgart-based headquarters said US forces had carried out 143 airstrikes against Islamic State forces in the coastal city of Sirte at the request of the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA) up until 9 September. It said the three most recent attacks had taken place on 11 September, with four strikes destroying nine fighting positions. US Defense Secretary Ash Carter told a press conference in London on 7 September that the air campaign had helped pro-GNA militias push Islamic State force back into a small section of Sirte and that the remaining fighters would soon be defeated. "I expect that they'll eliminate any remaining opposition shortly," he said. An AFRICOM spokesman told IHS Jane's on 12 September that US airstrikes were still on-going, saying "Operation 'Odyssey Lightning' in Libya continues". According to the data released by US Africa Command, there were airstrikes in Sirte on every day from 1 August to 11 September, except for two days - 12 August and 1 September. Targets have included T-72 and T-55 tanks, armed pick-up trucks, bulldozers, supply trucks, vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (VBIEDs), trenches, and fighting positions. Multiple targets were hit on most days, with attacks peaking on 16 August when nine strikes were made, according to the data. These attacks included the strikes on four VBIEDs, a pickup truck armed with a recoilless gun, a command-and-control vehicle, and 19 fighting positions. Department of Defense briefings over the past month have revealed that US Marine Corps McDonnell Douglas AV-8B Harrier strike jets and Bell AH-1W SuperCobra helicopter gunships flying from the amphibious warfare ship USS Wasp have carried out most of the strikes along with unidentified types of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). http://www.janes.com/article/63615/us-liby...r-raids-top-140 -------------------- "avenidas/avenidas y flores/flores/flores y mujeres/avenidas/avenidas y mujeres/avenidas y flores y mujeres y/un admirador" - Eugen Gomringer
