ZITAT US Army requests expeditionary and mobile systems to counter ‘low, slow, and small’ UASs Gareth Jennings, London - Jane's International Defence Review 15 February 2018 The US Army is looking to rapidly deploy two new systems to protect its forces against ‘low, slow, and small’ unmanned aircraft systems (UASs), the service disclosed on 14 February. Two separate requests for information (RFIs) related to the requirement were posted on the same day for the rapid development, deployment, and support of the Mobile-Low, Slow, Small UAS Integrated Defeat System (M-LIDS), and for the Expeditionary (E-LIDS) system. Both RFIs noted, “The US Army has identified a need to develop countermeasures against enemy-armed and intelligence gathering UASs operating at various speeds and altitudes, which are targeting US interests both at home and abroad. “[These RFIs] include all incidental services to develop, produce, integrate, deploy, and sustain the M-LIDS/E-LIDS in multiple theaters of operation.” No details on either system were disclosed, except that the RFIs were given a classification code listing of ‘Guided Missiles’. Interested parties have until 1600 h Central Time on 2 March to respond to the solicitations. These RFIs come two-and-a-half months after the US Army said that it was looking for an interim close-in air defence and counter-unmanned aerial vehicle (C-UAV) system to field on its Stryker wheeled infantry carrier and reconnaissance vehicles. That RFI, issued on 5 December 2017, was for 72 Interim Maneuver Short-Range Air Defense (IM-SHORAD) systems that would be capable of neutralising unmanned aircraft through both kinetic and non-kinetic means. http://www.janes.com/article/77924/us-army...-and-small-uass -------------------- "avenidas/avenidas y flores/flores/flores y mujeres/avenidas/avenidas y mujeres/avenidas y flores y mujeres y/un admirador" - Eugen Gomringer

ZITAT Army details timeline for Short Range Air Defense system contract and prototype 28 March, 2018 HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The U.S. Army plans to be fully under contract for mission equipment packages to transform its Stryker combat vehicles into maneuverable Short Range Air Defense, or SHORAD, systems by August with prototypes expected the following spring. The timeline was detailed during an interview with Col. Chuck Worshim, project manager for cruise missile defense systems with the Army’s Program Executive Office Missiles and Space, who spoke to Defense News at the Association of the U.S. Army’s Global Force Symposium. The service will issue a solicitation to industry called a request for ordnance technology initiatives. The ROTI will call for mission equipment packages for SHORAD on March 30, and then the service will make a selection among vendor offerings in June, Worshim said. The Army has moved rapidly to bring SHORAD capability back into the maneuver force since then-U.S. Army Europe commander Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges about a year and a half ago recognized a capability gap in SHORAD that needed filled for possible operations against near-peer threats such as Russia. [...] It’s no mystery who one of the “viable candidates” is. Boeing first brought an Avenger launcher loaded with a variety of missiles to AUSA Global Force last year. Then Boeing and General Dynamics Land Systems showed up at the Space and Missile Defense Symposium in August with an Avenger on a Stryker — the first SHORAD solution to integrate onto a Stryker platform before the Army even stated it would be the base vehicle for the system. Boeing and GDLS brought their Avenger/Stryker solution again to Global Force loaded with Longbow Hellfire missiles as well as Stinger missiles. Then the next day, the companies swapped them out with AIM-9X Sidewinder missiles to show the versatility of the launcher platform. The system also has an on-board radar, which is a must-have requirement for the SHORAD system. [...] The system also has room for a directed-energy weapon. Boeing is working on such a weapon for integration on the Stryker, which is under evaluation in Germany in a separate program. ZITAT Multinational Exercise combines New Technology, Soldiers
04.06.2018 Story by Sgt. Gregory Summers 22nd Mobile Public Affairs Detachment A "Terrier" armored digger from the United Kingdom's 22nd Engineer Regiment, 8th Engineer Brigade, maneuvers during a Robotic Complex Breach Concept demonstration with the U.S. military at Grafenwoehr Training Area, Germany, April 6, 2018. The Robotic Complex Breach Concept employes the use of Robotic and Autonomous Systems (RAS) for intelligence, suppression, obscuration, and reduction missions. (U.S. Army photo by Spc. Hubert D. Delany III / 22nd Mobile Public Affairs Detachment) GRAFENWOEHR, Germany – A spotlight shined in the training area of Grafenwoehr, Germany as troops from the U.S., the U.K., and Department of Defense civilians gathered to watch as several new pieces of technology and concepts were used during a Robotic Complex Breach Concept assessment and demonstration, April 6, 2018. “We are evaluating capabilities and the performance of a complex breach using robotics systems,” said Keith Briggs, the assistant engineering lead for the Robotic Complex Breach Concept. Soldiers conduct breach operations when they encounter complex obstacles along their movement that may be reinforced with mines. The unit works together to secure the area and suppress any enemy contact, while using smoke to obscure their breach and mine clearing operations to continue their assault to the objective. “The breach is one of the most difficult tasks that Soldiers can be faced with on the battlefield, so the opportunity to deploy robotic assets in place of a Soldier is something we are heavily striving for,” added Briggs. The robotic assets used during the breach included aerial technology with the Lethal Miniature Aerial Missile System (LMAMS), Puma and Instant Eye. weiter bei dvidshub -------------------- "avenidas/avenidas y flores/flores/flores y mujeres/avenidas/avenidas y mujeres/avenidas y flores y mujeres y/un admirador" - Eugen Gomringer

ZITAT All Armored Brigades To Get Active Protection Systems: Gen. Milley
"Once the US companies come on line," Gen. Milley said, "the intent is to outfit the entire heavy force — the Bradleys, the tanks, any future combat vehicles — with active protective systems.” May 15, 2018 [...] The US Army is already buying the Israeli Trophy APS for every M1 heavy tank in four armored brigades slated for early deployment to a crisis. (Three brigades are in the 2019 budget, one in 2018). But those brigades also include hundreds of M2 Bradleys, medium-weight troop carriers with significant armament and armor but little spare capacity to handle further upgrades. Instead of Trophy, which was built for tanks, the Army is testing an APS called Iron Fist Light, also Israeli, on the Bradleys. At this morning’s hearing of the Senate Appropriations subcommittee on defense, Sen. Steve Daines asked when the Bradleys would start getting Active Protection Systems. “We’re hoping to do that here in the next 24 months,” Gen. Milley replied. “These systems were built for (foreign) vehicles, so we’re taking these systems and we’re adapting them right now, as we speak, to our vehicles. And there’s some testing and prototyping, safety testing, that has to be done with these before they are ready for operational use in the four brigades that we’ve selected, but we hope to have that done within 24 months.” [...] https://breakingdefense.com/2018/05/all-arm...ems-gen-milley/ -------------------- "avenidas/avenidas y flores/flores/flores y mujeres/avenidas/avenidas y mujeres/avenidas y flores y mujeres y/un admirador" - Eugen Gomringer
