Zumal das Syrienabenteuer sowie die Einsatzerfahrungen der Amis ja vllt. auch nochmal den Wert von neuen Bombern demonstriert haben und ein paar Gelder in die Richtung umgeschaufelt werden.

ZITAT Russia to replace current 'light fighters' with MiG-35 Gareth Jennings, London - IHS Jane's Defence Weekly 27 January 2017 The Russian air force is to replace all of its current 'light' combat aircraft fleets with the newly unveiled MiG-35 'Fulcrum-F', state media quoted a senior service official as saying on 27 January. Speaking at the public unveiling of the MiG-35 by the United Air Corporation (UAC), Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) commander-in-chief Colonel General Viktor Bondarev said that all of the service's light fighters will be replaced by the latest-variant Flanker in the coming years, the TASS news agency reported. While the general did not specify which particular aircraft he was referring to when talking about 'light fighters', it was likely a reference to the MiG-29 'Fulcrum' from which the MiG-35 is derived. According to IHS Jane's World Air Forces, the VKS currently has about 350 MiG-29s (of which about 200 are thought to be in storage). With the MiG-29 making up the light end of Russia's fighter spectrum, the heavy end comprises the Sukhoi Su-27-series 'Flanker' and MiG-31 'Foxhound' fighters. The general was making his comments on the occasion of the MiG-35's rollout for president Vladimir Putin, who noted the type's export potential with those countries that already operate the MiG-29. Russia first revealed its plans to field a new light fighter as a cost effective but capable secondary combat aircraft for the VKS in December 2013. As noted in IHS Jane's All the World's Aircraft, the MiG-35 has been described by the manufacturer as "exhibiting the further development of the MiG-29K/KUB and MiG-29M/M2 fighters in the field of the combat efficiency enhancement, universality, and operational characteristics improvement". However, additional emphasis has been given in the MiG-35 to reliability of the airframe, engines, and avionics. The CEO of MiG, Sergei Korotkov, has previously stated that the MiG-35 will have a speed of Mach 2.23 and an operational range 1.5 times longer than the MiG-29. http://www.janes.com/article/67285/russia-...ers-with-mig-35 -------------------- "avenidas/avenidas y flores/flores/flores y mujeres/avenidas/avenidas y mujeres/avenidas y flores y mujeres y/un admirador" - Eugen Gomringer

ZITAT May und Erdogan vermitteln Rüstungspakt
2043 strukturelle Lebenszeit haben: ZITAT The KC-10 is projected to have a structural service life beyond 2043. ZITAT Grounded: Nearly two-thirds of US Navy’s strike fighters can’t fly
By: Christopher P. Cavas, February 6, 2017 Congress’ inability to pass a budget is hurting the fleet, leaders say WASHINGTON — The U.S. Navy’s F/A-18 Hornet and Super Hornet strike fighters are the tip of the spear, embodying most of the fierce striking power of the aircraft carrier strike group. But nearly two-thirds of the fleet’s strike fighters can’t fly — grounded because they’re either undergoing maintenance or simply waiting for parts or their turn in line on the aviation depot backlog. Overall, more than half the Navy’s aircraft are grounded, most because there isn’t enough money to fix them. [...] The dire situation of naval aviation is sobering. According to the Navy, 53 percent of all Navy aircraft can’t fly — about 1,700 combat aircraft, patrol, and transport planes and helicopters. Not all are due to budget problems — at any given time, about one-fourth to one-third of aircraft are out of service for regular maintenance. But the 53 percent figure represents about twice the historic norm. The strike fighter situation is even more acute and more remarkable since the aircraft are vitally important to projecting the fleet’s combat power. Sixty-two percent of F/A-18s are out of service; 27 percent in major depot work; and 35 percent simply awaiting maintenance or parts, the Navy said. With training and flying hour funds cut, the Navy’s aircrews are struggling to maintain even minimum flying requirements, the senior Navy source said. Retention is becoming a problem, too. In 2013, 17 percent of flying officers declined department head tours after being selected. The percentage grew to 29 percent in 2016. Noch mal zur MiG-35:
ZITAT The current radar is the Zhuk-M with a slotted, mechanically steered antenna, but its developer Phazontron-NIIR is working on active electronically scanned array (AESA) versions—the Zhuk-A/AM—with thousands of solid-state transceiver modules. These radars are said to be capable of aerial target detection at a maximum distance of 160 km (99.4 miles) and simultaneous targeting of six aerial and four ground targets. https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/def...-mig-35-fighter Offensichtlich also (noch?) kein AESA für die MiG-35, da wird die eigene, angebliche 'Generation 4++'-Einordnung doch gleich deutlich relativiert. Amüsant fand ich auch diese Aussage des OAK-Chefs Slyusar: ZITAT We have increased from six to eight the number of suspension points, which will make it possible to use current and future airborne weapons systems, including laser weapons. http://en.kremlin.ru/events/president/news/53781 -------------------- "avenidas/avenidas y flores/flores/flores y mujeres/avenidas/avenidas y mujeres/avenidas y flores y mujeres y/un admirador" - Eugen Gomringer

ZITAT Son—and Cousin—of JDAM The Air Force is looking to develop a new class of direct-attack munitions—those dropped from an attacking aircraft either over or near the target—that would be stealthy, maneuverable, and potentially have some electronic warfare capability, Air Combat Command chief Gen. Hawk Carlisle said in an interview. The weapon would equip the new Penetrating Counter-Air jet and other stealthy platforms able to penetrate an enemy integrated air defense system, he said. “If we get to the enemy IADS sites, we have to have a weapon that can penetrate” those defenses “to hit the actual surface-to-air missile” batteries and associated radars, Carlisle said in the late January interview. The weapon would have reduced signature and “broadband acquisition and tracking capability” to be able to pursue ground targets trying to flee the area, he said. The reason such a weapon is needed is that adversaries will have the ability in the not-too-distant future to shoot down or fool an existing weapon after it’s dropped from an aircraft but “before it impacts the target.” The SSW will fill a major hole in the Suppression of Enemy Air Defense (SEAD) mission, he said. Carlisle did not specify when such a weapon will be needed, but spoke about it in the context of the Air Superiority 2030 report done last year. In the nearer future, the Air Force wants a quick-turnaround additional source of small, precision-guided, and maneuvering munitions to equip the F-35 in time to be part of the Block 3F suite of capabilities on the jet, according to a Feb. 10 service solicitation. This requirement is to provide ACC with a “quick reaction capability” for a weapon in the 500-pound class that could pursue a moving target and be “compatible” with the F-35A Block 3F. The Air Force isn’t interested in a new development, specifying a mature design, “already in production,” and it wants to buy about 400 units. A vendor could be selected in calendar 2017 and deliveries could start as soon as six months after contract award. That would coincide with planned operating capability of the 3F, which USAF said in the notice would be May 15, 2018. The contract “cannot impact the current fielding schedule” for the 3F software build, USAF said. http://www.airforcemag.com/Features/Pages/...%94of-JDAM.aspx ZITAT USAF seeks interim 500 lb bomb with moving target capability for F-35 Gareth Jennings, London - IHS Jane's Defence Weekly 13 February 2017 The US Air Force (USAF) is seeking an interim 500 lb-class weapon with a moving target capability for the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter (JSF). A `sources sought' notice posted on the Federal Business Opportunities website on 10 February calls for information from the US industry only on a non-developmental precision-guided munition (PGM) capable of being integrated onto the F-35A, ahead of an expected request for proposals (RFP). As noted by the Air Combat Command's request for information (RFI), an initial 400 weapons are being sought of a total inventory of 1,200. The first contract is expected to be awarded in the third quarter of fiscal year 2017, with deliveries of the initial order to begin no later than six months after the contract date. "In response to an Air Combat Command (ACC) Quick Reaction Capability (QRC) requirement, the USAF is seeking a time sensitive, interim solution to add a 500 lb-class Precision Guided Munition (PGM) with moving and manoeuvring target capability that is mechanically, electrically, and logically compatible with F-35 Block 3F aircraft Operational Flight Program (OFP). This munition must consistently impact moving targets traveling along a constant heading with a uniform velocity up to 70 mph and manoeuvring targets performing ±0.2 g manoeuvres with velocities up to 40 mph. The capability cannot impact the current fielding schedule for F-35 Block 3F, namely 15 May 2018," the RFI states. Responses are due no later than 15:00 Central Daylight Time (CDT) 12 March. The F-35A is already earmarked to carry the Raytheon GBU-12 500 lb PGM and the GBU-38 500 lb Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM), but these weapons do not currently have the required moving target capability. Possible contenders for the requirement include the Boeing GBU-54/B Laser JDAM based on the MK 82 or BLU-111 500 lb bombs; as well as the Lockheed Martin Dual Mode Plus LGB kit fitted to the MK 82 or BLU-111. http://www.janes.com/article/67679/usaf-se...bility-for-f-35 -------------------- "avenidas/avenidas y flores/flores/flores y mujeres/avenidas/avenidas y mujeres/avenidas y flores y mujeres y/un admirador" - Eugen Gomringer
