Der Anlaß: ZITAT Danish trawler scoops up German sub in its nets </font>
COPENHAGEN : A Danish trawler made a surprise catch when it scooped up a German submarine in its nets, forcing the vessel to rise to the surface, Danish sea rescue officials said. The trawler was fishing in the Skagerrak waters between Norway and Denmark, about 20 nautical miles off the Danish port of Hirtshals, when it made its unusual catch. "But the trawler's nets were not able to withstand (the weight of) this extraordinary catch," a sea rescue duty officer told AFP. "The crew of the trawler was never in danger, they were more scared than anything else. And a German vessel helped the captured submarine to disentangle itself and continue on its route," he said. The German sub was taking part in NATO manoeuvres in the region, "Blue Game 2004" featuring 70 vessels from 16 countries. This is not the first time a Danish fishing boat has had a close encounter with a submarine in the region. In March 1984, three crewmen were killed when their trawler was pulled to the bottom by a German submarine caught in its nets. |

Jungs, das hier ist ein News-Topic...
Zu den Dolphin haben wir bereits bestehende Diskussionsthreads. QUOTE Iraq stands up Coastal Defence Force The nascent Iraqi Coastal Defence Force (ICDF) received its first two 27m patrol boats on 4 April 2004, during a ceremony on board HMS Grafton, one of the UK Royal Navy's (RN's) Type 23 frigates currently on patrol in the northern Persian Gulf. Iraq's short coastline has dictated that Iraq never really established much of a naval tradition and the country's decade-long war with Iran and the subsequent wars in 1991 and 2003 effectively destroyed the remaining vestiges of any pretence to maritime presence off the coast. Indeed during its period of sanctions and embargoes during the 1990s, the Iraqi government was more concerned with smuggling oil out and goods in through its waters than policing them in any meaningful way and in the last war, fishing vessels were pressed into service as minelayers. The first two boats of the 400-strong force will be joined by three sister vessels by the end of May. The force is also expecting to receive 10 smaller vessels to be handed over imminently. These craft will eventually replace the US-led coalition's vessels in the coast guard and policing roles, aiming to counter terrorism and smuggling operations and generally take on responsibility for security in Iraqi waters. http://www.janes.com/defence/naval_forces/...40505_1_n.shtml -------------------- This just in: Beverly Hills 90210 - Cleveland Browns 3
