ZITAT Algeria, Turkmenistan To Buy Russian Tanks: Report MOSCOW — Russia has signed contracts to sell 120 T-90C tanks to Algeria and 30 to Turkmenistan, Vedomosti business daily reported Feb. 14 citing sources in the arms industry. The contracts, which follow earlier defense contracts with the countries, would be worth at least $500 million, defense analyst Konstantin Makiyenko told the newspaper. Russia signed the contract with Algeria in autumn 2011 and the contract with Turkmenistan in summer 2011, Vedomosti reported, citing a source close to the arms export agency and a manager at state corporation Rostechnology. The Arab Spring protests last year triggered unrest in Algeria and led its president to pledge reforms. The energy-rich ex-Soviet state of Turkmenistan on Feb. 13 reelected its strongman President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov with more than 97 percent of the vote. Russia earlier supplied Algeria with 185 T-90C tanks in 2009 and supplied Turkmenistan with 10 tanks to fulfill a 2010 contract, the newspaper reported. The new contracts would make Russia the world’s largest tank exporter in 2012, said Mikhail Barabanov, editor of Moscow Defense Brief. Last year Russian army chief Alexander Postnikov complained to the Russian Senate about the high cost of the new T-90 tank model and said that he could buy three German tanks for its price of 18 million rubles ($600,545). -> http://www.defensenews.com/article/2012021...an-Tanks-Report |

British tanks to be sent to Germany for storage so army can sell land in UK
ZITAT Up to 6,000 military vehicles could be transported overseas so prime site in Gloucestershire can be sold to raise funds It has been an awfully long time since British tanks rumbled their way across Europe towards the Rhine – 67 years, in fact. So the Germans will be intrigued to learn the Ministry of Defence is plotting another push east, albeit an unconventional one that has been forced on it by budget cuts. Thousands of the British military's tanks, carriers and cars will head across the Channel because of MoD plans to sell off its vast complex at Ashchurch in Gloucestershire. This is where it stores or repairs up to 6,000 vehicles, ready for duty. ... - http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2012/feb/16/b...germany-storage MFG ironduke57 Der Beitrag wurde von ironduke57 bearbeitet: 26. Amerikaner testen auf Hawaii SUVs mit Brennstoffzelle:
ZITAT GM Camo Military Fuel Cell SUV General Motors has released the latest photos of their new hydrogen powered vehicles. They will be tested by the US Army Pacific as well as the other branches of the United States military in Hawaii to determine if this is the best foot forward to rid the dependence on oil and move toward alternative forms of energy. GM saw the need or perhaps was designated to have a camouflage theme on the rear and hood to provide a true militaristic aesthetic to the Fuel cell trucks. Perhaps it is a more generic take on the different services camo selections, but we are sure many we will say the Marines/Navy selection got preferential treatment with the digital woodland palette.
-------------------- This just in: Beverly Hills 90210 - Cleveland Browns 3

Force Mobility Enhancement Project
ZITAT The Force Mobility Enhancement (FME) project includes the acquisition of a fleet of Armoured Engineer Vehicles (AEV) that will provide crucial support to the Leopard 2 tanks, Light Armoured Vehicle III, and future fleets, such as the Close Combat Vehicle and the Tactical Armoured Patrol Vehicle. The project will also include the installation of tactical mobility implements on the fleet of Leopard 2 main battle tanks. The first phase of this project is to acquire Armoured Engineer Vehicles (AEV). The ability of these vehicles to operate under fire will further enhance the Canadian Forces’ mobility and deployability in a wide range of missions. This phase will also acquire Armoured Recovery Vehicles (ARV) in support of the AEV. The AEV ensures troops have a clear, safe path to navigate by clearing mines, debris and other obstacles, filling in craters and providing limited road maintenance and construction. As the new fleet of AEV will use a Leopard 2 tank chassis, they will have a high degree of crew protection and will continue to be an integral part of any armour deployment. The AEV is employable in a wide variety of situations. The in-service Leopard 1 AEV’s were employed in domestic operations such as flood control and the 1998 Ice Storm. The new AEV will replace the Canadian Forces’ aging fleet of Leopard 1-based AEV Badgers. The new fleet of AEVs will be capable of supporting the Leopard 2 main battle tank fleet until 2035. FME will procure 13 AEVs, with options for an additional five vehicles. The contract for the conversion of Leopard 2 chassis into AEVs was awarded to Flensburger Fahrzeugbau (FFG) Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung (GmbH) on April 5, 2012. The Government of Canada’s Industrial and Regional Benefits policy is applied to this phase of the project, which means FFG must generate economic activity in Canada, dollar for dollar equal to the contract value. The second vehicle type, the ARV, is essentially a tow-truck for a tank or other large, armoured vehicle. The ARV is also manufactured using a Leopard 2 chassis and is able to recover vehicles from the battlefield while under fire, thanks to its high degree of crew protection and specialized towing equipment. FME exercised contract options from the Tank Replacement Project on March 26, 2012, for the conversion of four Leopard 2 chassis into ARVs by Rheinmetall Land Systems (RLS) GmbH. The second phase of the project will be to procure tactical mobility implements for the Leopard 2 tank fleet, including dozer blades, mine ploughs and mine rollers. FME will acquire 16 mine rollers, 16 mine ploughs, and 18 dozer blades. Both the AEVs and the implements procured under FME are expected to reach Initial Operational Capability by February 2015, with Full Operational Capability expected by December 2016. - http://www.forces.gc.ca/site/news-nouvelle...eng.asp?id=4201 MFG ironduke57 -------------------- Like people in the U.S., we in Germany often feel that we really are the best country in the world.
